Support
Answers to the things people ask most. If yours is not here, email and a real person will read it.
Get in touch
eBikeTrader is run by one person, so replies usually take a day or two rather than minutes. If you are reporting a scam, a stolen bike, or someone behaving badly, say so in the subject line and it gets looked at first.
Signing in
I cannot sign in, and I know my password is right. Check which method you originally signed up with. Accounts are kept one-per-email-address and sign-in methods are not linked automatically, so an account created with Google cannot be opened with Sign in with Apple, or with an email and password, even when the address is the same. Use the method you signed up with.
I used Sign in with Apple and hid my email. That is fine, and messages still reach you through Apple's relay address. Just remember to use Sign in with Apple every time — there is no password on that account.
I forgot my password. Use the forgot-password link on the sign-in screen. It only works for accounts created with an email and password.
Posting a listing
Listing is free. You need an account so buyers have somewhere to message you.
- Add up to eight photos. The first one is what buyers see in search results, so make it the best one.
- Fill in battery health and mileage if you know them. They are the two things buyers ask about first, and listings that include them get taken more seriously.
- You can edit the price, change the photos, mark it sold, or delete it at any time from the listing itself.
- Photos uploaded from a web browser keep whatever metadata your camera recorded, which can include the location the photo was taken. Listing photos are public, so strip that first if it matters to you. The iOS app removes it automatically.
Messages and notifications
I am not getting notified about messages. In the iOS app, open Account and check whether message notifications are on — if it offers to send you to Settings, notifications were declined at some point and have to be re-enabled there. If you use the website instead, you get an email when someone messages you, unless you were active in the last few minutes, in which case you would have seen the message live.
My message would not send. Check your connection first. If it still fails, the person may no longer be reachable — either they deleted their account, or they are not accepting messages from you.
Can I delete a message I sent? Yes, your own messages only. On the phone, press and hold the message. It disappears for both of you.
Staying safe
eBikeTrader is a venue, not a middleman. No money passes through it, nothing is escrowed, and users are not verified or background-checked. The safety of a sale is in your hands, so:
- Meet in a public place in daylight, and bring someone along.
- Check the bike and its serial number before paying, and ask for proof of purchase on anything expensive.
- Be suspicious of anyone who will not meet, who wants payment before you have seen the bike, who overpays and asks for a refund of the difference, or who pushes you to move the conversation somewhere else.
- A serial number can be checked against stolen-bike registries such as Bike Index before you hand over money.
Reporting and blocking. Every listing has a report option, and you can block a person so their listings stop appearing for you and neither of you can message the other. Blocking is reversible — the app keeps the list under Account, and the website under your account settings. If you have been scammed or threatened, report it to us and to your local police; we can remove an account but we cannot recover money.
Your account and your data
You can delete your account, your listings and their photos at any time — in the iOS app under Account, or on the website in your account settings. It is immediate and cannot be undone.
To request a copy of the data we hold about you, or to have something corrected, email us from the address on your account. What we collect and why is set out in full in the Privacy Policy, and the rules of using the service are in the Terms of Use.
